Yogurt Sauce and French Fries
Forget ketchup! Today I dipped my french fries into the yogurt sauce I made the other night (chaka, recipe below). It was fantastic! This beats french fries and sour cream hands down!
Y&R Time Warp
I have a confession, I watch a daytime soap. Only one, I promise!! I watch The Young and the Restless and have watched since I was a baby. I remember when Patti shot Jack and when Nikki had Victoria. This is strange because now the character of Victoria is older than me.
So I watch this soap everyday. In Tennessee, (and in Hawaii and NYC) Y&R came on at at 12:30 or 1PM. So I could divide my day pre-Y&R and Post Y&R. I am not strict on routines and hate watching clocks so this method worked for me. Pre-Y&R I would take the kids out to the park or have quiet playtime. Pre-Y&R was also the time for playgroups and meeting friends. It was the time for the kids to watch THEIR shows. Post-Y&R was naptime, chore time, and time to run various errands before starting supper. It worked so well for me. I think I do it subconsciously because I believe my mother does the same thing.
I have a problem now that I am in Louisville. Y&R doesn’t start until 4PM!! My day is shot and I feel like I am wandering lost in a fog all day. I have to actually watch the clock now. I need a new time marker and fast. I hate all other daytime shows and despise talk shows (especially The View). I guess I can watch Fox News at 1PM and use that as my marker, but I don’t really look forward to that since I can watch the news at anytime.
I guess I will just have to put clocks up all over the house and actually go by time rather than Victor Newman! Poor me!
A Woman’s Work
I am very tired. I just moved with a two month old and breast feed every two hours. I had a week long cold and just started birth control which is giving me bad side effects. My two and four years cry all day partly because they are sick and partly because they hate moving. I get no help around the house because I am a woman and “housework is women’s work” (whatever!)!! Unfortunately I am the only woman in this house. Wondering how I had time to type this? I am now feeding my two month old. And no, I am not a single mom!!! (yes I am being very passive aggressive)

What is Airag?
Airag was mentioned in a post before about yogurt. Airag, however, is a little bit different from kefir and other yogurt drinks. It is a Mongolian specialty and made out of mare’s milk. Yes, that is mare as in horse. Airag is fermented mare’s milk and yes it can intoxicate you. The drink is also popular in Kazakhstan (it is milk not urine, Borat) and Tibet.
This is how to make it next time you are hanging out in Mongolia and have about 12 mares in front of your ger.
“Women milk the mares about every 2 hours. Horses are called in and foals are allowed to drink for a minute to start the flow of milk, then the women milk into a bucket. Filled buckets are then poured into large leather bags and then hung on the wall inside the ger. Everyone who enters or leaves the ger is expected stir the milk as they pass. A long thick wooden stick is plunged up and down inside the bag. This is similar to hand churning cream into butter. Younger children count and practice their numbers as they do this. The milk is left in the bag to ferment over night. When morning comes, the airag is ready. Family members start their day with a drink before their daily chores begin.”
