Is Bakunin in Fashion Again?

bakunin.jpg

Bakunin was a Russian revolutionary who is considered to be the founder of anarchism or libertarian socialism. He was an aristocrat turned revolutionary in 19th century Russia. Unlike Marx, who argued for State run socialism, Bakunin fought for the complete abolition of the state and laws. He died in 1876, but is still influencing the world today.

From Infoshopnews.com: “European traffic planners are dreaming of streets free of rules and directives. They want drivers and pedestrians to interact in a free and humane way, as brethren — by means of friendly gestures, nods of the head and eye contact, without the harassment of prohibitions, restrictions and warning signs.

A project implemented by the European Union is currently seeing seven cities and regions clear-cutting their forest of traffic signs. Ejby, in Denmark, is participating in the experiment, as are Ipswich in England and the Belgian town of Ostende.”

“We reject every form of legislation,” the Russian aristocrat and “father of anarchism” Mikhail Bakunin once thundered. The czar banished him to Siberia. But now it seems his ideas are being rediscovered.”

Bakunin not only inspires EU legislation, but plays as well. On Broadway, there is currently a play called “Voyage” part of the three part play The Coast of Utopia about Russian revolutionaries like Bakunin, who is played by Ethan Hawke.

Marx and Bakunin were rivals in the 19th century. For most of the 20th century it looked like Marx won more than likely due to the fact that you can’t count on the common good and Bakunin’s anti- semitic remarks.

When I was in school Bakunin was popular among the anti-establishment punk kids but is he the current fashion for the liberal elites? Another point— Bakunin argued for a united Europe long before the EU was organized. Just a thought. . .

This year Minnesota elected the first Muslim, Keith Ellison, to Congress. Now he has to be sworn in as Congressman which brings up a problem- you have to be sworn in on a (gasp!!) BIBLE!! Holy Rollers!! Of course Rep. Elect Ellison wants to be sworn in on a Koran not a Bible. He is causing a big stink over it. For one thing, Muslims claim to believe in the Holy Bible, they just don’t believe it is perfect like the Koran. So, swearing on the Bible shouldn’t make him less of a Muslim. Do Muslims even swear on the Koran anyways?? (Please someone let me know) Isn’t swearing on a Holy Book purely a Western and infidel thing to do? What do Muslims swear on anyway? Only to Allah?

If he wants to swear on the Bible AND the Koran that might actually be a better idea and send a message of peace to both Christians and Muslims. But. . . that is in dream land.

In our crazy reality, Rep-Elect Ellison will make swearing on the Koran a big deal. He might even file a court case like has been done in the past. So Ellison will actually cause more of a divide. The Christians will get angry that he wants to change American tradition and the Muslims will get mad at Christians. Soon we will have Atheists and Buddhists and everyone else wanting to swear on their holy book to the point where we just won’t swear anymore. Politicians break their promises anyway!!

Thank You Minnesota!!!!

Iran’s Opinion of America

general.jpg

Iranian Revolutionary Guards Corps Commander Yahya Safavi:

“The Americans and the countries that have satellite systems - especially those that monitor Iran’s airspace or the atmosphere - can see our missile launchings clearly - not the radar systems, but the satellites of the various countries. They see both the launching and landing points. It is completely obvious to them that these were real maneuvers. In fact, the maneuvers were carried out with combat weapons, and were not just for show.”

“The Americans have many weaknesses. In fact, in the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, they clearly displayed their strengths and weaknesses. We have planned our strategy precisely on the basis of their strengths and weaknesses.

“We don’t see any motivation among the American forces in Iraq. They are very cowardly. There are even scenes from Iraq in which they are seen crying. When their commanders encounter a problem, they burst into tears. We did not see such spectacles in the eight years of the Iran-Iraq war. I can therefore say that our advantage over the foreign forces is moral and human. ”

Sweet Home Alabama

I am in the middle of nowhere, AL. Thus, I have a slow internet connection. I can’t do anything fun. I will add that I had a wonderful Thanksgiving and had a great time talking to my grandparents. My husband LOVES my grandmother so I am glad there is someone in my family he relates to.

We looked at an old scrapbook my great grandmother kept. She is still alive and 92 years old. This was a scrapbook she kept in the 1970s. I really wished I got to know her better. She is such a funny woman witha great sense of humor. I was a musician. She played the mandolin, guitar, and piano. She wrote the funniest songs. I remember as a child her singing to us. She also was very religious and kept some poems about Jesus. People wrote poems about her. She is such a great country lady. She grew up poor in the South and worked hard all of her life. I hope to visit her again soon.

Her name is Nannie Mildred Warren Johnson from Dyer, TN.
