10 Most Evil Men in History

Posted on August 17th, 2007 in History by Ambar

I found this “cute” little book in the library called, The Wicked History of the World. On the last page it lists the 50 worst people in history. I was curious to see what most people think are the 10 most evil people in history. I was thinking about who I thought the top 10 were. Before doing this I was curious to see who others felt were the most evil. The most interesting lists I saw listed Ann Coulter and Joe McCarthy as the most evil in history. Another listed Bill Clinton as worse than Hitler. These people don’t have a clue. When I see Ann Coulter, I do not shudder with fear. In fact, I think Michael Jackson is far more scary than Ann Coulter. Joe McCarthy? He never gassed anyone alive or impaled babies. He just threatened the jobs of a few actors and other people from Hollywood. One person said that Vlad the Impaler wasn’t so bad. After all, he was abused as a child and had an allergy that made him cruel. Whatever!! Vlad the Impaler was pure evil.

To me, the most evil who make you shudder just to hear his name. If you were to go back into time and be in the same room with this person and share your opinion openly, would you survive coming back to the future? These people take your freedom and individuality and force you to live in fear. They enjoy watching you suffer and have no sense of humanity. They are unfair narcissists who are intolerant. They want to be worshipped and see themselves as gods. If someone gets hurt, it is never their fault. If you disagree with them, you die. They only want POWER. (THAT is why George Bush CANNOT be on the list ok?? Plus if Bush was evil, Iraq would be the 51st state, Saddam wouldn’t have had a trial, Cindy Sheehan would have been boiled alive, and Chavez really would be smelling sulfur because he would be burning at the stake for insulting Bush. )

Here is my try and you are welcome to disagree. This is difficult by the way, I only put those who are dead on my list. Also, I only put leaders. There are many evil men who were not leaders. (Charles Manson for example)
Nero- This one was hard. A Roman Emperor had to be on the list. Tiberius molested boys on his island retreat. That was after he was kind of retired. He was a dirty old man. Caligula was bad but was he insane? So I went with Nero who was a complete narcissist.
Vlad the Impaler I have read both sides. Those who defend him and those who hate him. I am sorry he is just plain evil no matter what his reasoning was. It was him or Elizabeth Bathory.
Ivan the Terrible Yeah, I have hard both sides about him too, yeah and Hitler built the autobahn, I still think he is evil.
Yasuhiko Asaka (Rape of Nanking)
Tamerlane (he still makes people shutter in fear)
Lenin (Man Made Famines of Ukraine)
Genghis Khan
Mao (Worse than Hitler)
Joseph Stalin
Adolf Hitler (and the other leaders of the Nazi party) I put him as number one only because unlike the other leaders he was elected to office. He is so evil that he talked his own people into elected him president (though it might have been rigged) despite his questionable past.

Honorable Mention- Henry VIII, Pope Alexander VI, Cesare Borgia, Elizabeth Bathory, Pol Pot, Ho Chi Minh, Napoleon, Kim Il Sung
In our time I would have to say Mugabe and Kim Jong Il

Why is Napoleon on the honorable mention list? What did he do that was so evil?
In fact he removed the death penalty in france, gave the jews and other minorities human rights and never tried to get revenge.
Of course he was involved in alot of wars but this was a diffrent time.
He also striped the church of its power (however some may consider himevil for this).
I am not critizing your list, just wondering why Napoleon is on it.

Ps. I am sorry if i made any gramatic mistakes, i am swedish

Vlad is the scariest in my opinion. Elizabeth Bathory isn’t much better.

What about Idi Amin. The man was also a psycho in his time. Maybe add him to your list.

I did forget about him!! He is added to my list. I will make a new list soon. It seems that it is impossible to just name 5 or 10.

    Franklin D. Roosevelt:

    1. Purposely extended the Great Depression in order to rape the U.S. economy.
    2. Had foreknowledge of the Pearl Harbor attack, but encouraged it.
    3. Nuclear bombed Japan when they were about to surrender.

    Pure evil.

Osama Bin Ladin is responsiable for the deaths of over 3000 americans. thats genocide! You dont have to add him to the list, but I would really apresiated if you do.

What makes someone evil? Taking away someone’s freedoms! The more they control you through fear and through murder the more evil they are. Hitler judged your worthiness to live based on your genetic make up!

If you must add Roosevelt, then you have to add Abraham Lincoln. See why those men aren’t as evil as Hitler or Stalin? They represent an elected office and did not have power all to themselves. Also, I could walk in Roosevelt’s face and disagree with him and not worry about getting my genitals electrocuted. Trust me, if Bush was as evil as people say he were, half of Hollywood would be burned at the stake!

Genghis Khan is exaggerated and actually a genuis. He used scholars and engineers to help use technology. The Mongols were also afraid of blood do to their culture so deaths were caused by arrows. Excutions were usually suffocation the most humane compairing the tortures in similar times like the deaths of the Spainish inquisition.
Also no Pol Pot he killed one third of all Cambodians he imlied Mao’s ideas to an extreme the whole Khmer rouge

Idi Amin Dada who killed and tortured many Ugandans in his harsh dictatorship.

Yo, u could measure evil in how many peole someone killed, how they killed people, why they killed people, or if they didn’t actually kill people directly you could measure what they did indirectly that led to something. something like that could easily measure “evil”, but then again “evil” is just a view/oppinion. You could just gathr mass murders for starters.

Hey im not sure if this is true at all, but wasn’t there a person who lured people to his mansion to kill off with traps and stuff. I heard about it a long time ago but I acyually think his name was Sherlock Holmes, I was afraid to bring it up in case I was completly wrong. I hope someone knows what im talking about.

Never mind his name was H.H. Holmes. Hahaha, i was off by a lot, i think it was at the same time as Jack the Ripper.

Wow, back then evil was different, now it would probably be Jack the Rip off artist.

Stalin was only bad towards his own people, and recently Russia did a poll to decide who their national hero was gona be and Stalin and Lenin were ranked on the top 10. So despite this cruelity they still love them so they cant be on the list. They same goes for Mao, he only killed his own people and the Chinese still love him so if the people he supposedly murdered love him, then he cant be considered evil.
