I now live in Virginia so I thought it would be interesting to note who of my ancestors also lived in Virginia. Many early American settlers arrived to the Americas through Virginia so many start off in Virginia before moving south to settle newer colonies there. So far I only have those of my mother’s line listed.

My mother’s great-grandparents were: William Etheridge, Callie Carter, Parthenia Lomax, William Burns, John Johnson, Annie Isbell, William Warren, and Willie Inez McDonald. I will try to share more information about them at some point. Some of them were still alive when my mother was young. My granparents are also still alive and can share many stories about them.

Here are her Virginia ancestors that we have found so far. This list is mainly to help me when I do my searching to make sure I get the correct county records, etc. Most of my mother’s family moved to North Carolina or the new state of Tennessee. I have just found your site and am very pleased. I believe I have as 7th grandfather, John Cox, b. 1640 in Bremo,Henrico, Va. It appears that his wife was Mary Elam. His son Richard Cox. b.1678 in Henrico Co. m. Mary Trent, b. 1682 and also of the same Co.————–John and Mary’s granddaughter Elizabeth marrried Strangeman Hutchins a Quaker minister. Do you know if others in the Cox, Elam, Trent families were also Quakers? Please reply, Thanks

As far as I can see the Cox family doesn’t appear to be Quaker. In court documents they are not listed as Quaker. I’ll keep looking and let you know if I find anything else on the Cox family of Henrico County, Virginia.

I will be visiting my mother soon and she has all of the information. The Cox family does seem to connect to other Quaker families and there is a book on Quaker genealogy that I can access through ancestry.com when I get to my mother’s house. I hope to find something for they do have a Cox listed from Henrico County.
