16. John James Lee was born on April 6, 1868 in Whitewater Township, Pickens, South Carolina and died November 18, 1945 in Oconee, South Carolina. On September 28, 1892, he married Mattie Emeline Sheppard in Oconee County, South Carolina. He was the son of Rubin Winfield Lee and Gilly Caroline Ross.

My mother has a life story of John James Lee written by his son. John James Lee grew up on a farm and was taught at home by his mother. Education seemed to be important to him as he moved closer to a school so his children could be educated. He owned land in Oconee County, South Carolina and what is known as Lee Falls.

He had 6 children:
