Genealogy Fun

I have finally reached a point when genealogy is fun. I have a theory! The fun things about theories is that you have to prove them. That takes a lot of work.

Right now I am doing research on my grandfather’s family. (Gee) I was sad that there wasn’t much known about my paternal side of the family. It is difficult because my grandfather’s parents divorced when he was about 8 or 9. Therefore we do not have any connection with his father’s family. It takes a lot of research.

My grandfather’s father’s family is a Georgia family. His grandmother’s family have been in Georgia since around 1795. That is what I am trying to research. When did the family come to Georgia?

To find out this information you have to read old land records, deeds, and local histories. I found out that my ancestor was an early Baptist preacher in Georgia. I just need to document and prove it 100%. There are no maybes in genealogy. People tend to prove “maybes” incorrect.

I dare you to try to research an ancestor. There is so much information online. You simply put the ancestor’s name in search and you will find tons of information on them. When you hit a wall, it’s time to go to the FHC or county court houses. I don’t know about foreign research but if you have an ancestor from early America it is very easy to find information on them.

  1. I think it is so cool that you blog about so much of your family’s history. I am just starting to research my family and I really don’t know what to do because Sara-Jayne has done so much. I still need to get your side!
