October 23rd, 2008 Amber No comments

Lloyd Belt Magruder appears to be the only son of Joseph Magruder II to have children. LloyLloyd made up for that by having 11 children. Lloyd B Magruder married Nancy Ann Overall in Bullitt County, Kentucky in 1830 according to the records.

These are their children:

William Joseph Magruder 01 Aug 1831 in Bullitt County, Kentucky (Family Search) and died on 15 OCt 1869 in Lincoln County, Missouri (Family Search) He married Euphemia J. (married Mary Alloway and second Maggie Koch), Mary Lutitia (Shields), Virginia E (Maupin), and Emmet McDonald (married Susan Shields) They were all from Lincoln County, Missouri. Joseph Magruder Jr

A Joseph Magruder signed  petition that was read in the House of Delegates on Nov 1799.

“Petitions from Reuben Allen, Joseph Burneston, John Deaver, Samuel Foudray and Patrick
Mellion, of the city of Baltimore, Abel Sarjeant, Samuel Selby, 3d, Peter D’Evecman, William
W. Hoy, of Allegany county, William Smith, Samuel Williams and Joseph Magruder, of Montgomery
county, praying acts of insolvency, were preferred, read, and referred to the committee
appointed on petitions of a similar nature.”

This must be Joseph Magruder JR whose family later moved to Kentucky and then to Missouri.  He appears to have had some problems with debts.THis is from Dec 1800:

“WHEREAS Joseph Magruder, Nathan Hughes, Clement Chamberlain, Lewis Duvall, King
English and Richard T. Cheseldine, of Montgomery county, by their petitions to this general
assembly have set forth, that by reason of many misfortunes they are unable wholly to satisfy
their creditors, and have prayed for the benefit of an act of insolvency, upon their delivering up all
their property for the use of their creditors; therefore,”

Is this part of the reason they went West?

Bullitt County, Kentucky tax list- Probably a Joseph or a Josiah Magruder is listed in 1806. Joseph MAgruder is listed on the 1813 tax list with one slave. He had 125 acres on Clear Creek, Shelby County, Kentucky. He died in 1817 in either Bullitt or Shelby County, Kentucky though Family Search says he died in Montgomery County, Maryland. I can’t find records with his death and I can’t find his will. I know that his son Lloyd Belt Magruder married Ann Overall in Bullitt County, Kentucky in 1830. In 1847, they move to Lincoln County, Missouri.
