Family of Jeremiah Rust
Jeremiah Rust was born before 1695 in Cople Parish, Westmoreland, Virginia. He married before 1721 Magdalene Damourvell the daughter of the French doctor/ “pretend” cooper, Samuel Damourvell. He took the tithetables for Cople Parih in 1729 and became one of the Justices of Westmoreland County.
1. Samuel Rust- unknown, probably never married
2. William Rust, in 1743 was a minor when with his friend Charnock Cox sued his brother-in-law Thomas Boggess for tresspassing. (from the book Rust of Virginia) I wonder what that was about? He died around 1754 and left no wife or children. He gave the land “White Marsh” to brother Samuel, “Jerries Thicket” to brother Jeremiah and carpenter’s and joiner’s tools to Thaddeus Jackson. (half brother)
3. Jeremiah Rust Jr. After the death of his father, his brother-in-law Thomas Boggess became his guardian. In 1743, Charnock Cox became his guardian after his mother remarried. (probably why Boggess was sued for tresspass) and by 1745 chose Peter Rust as his guardian. (from the book, Rust of Virginia, notes in parenthesis mine) In 1748, he was still under age. he married France, the widow of William Steward Minor.
4. Hannah Rust still liing in 1798 and was mention in brother Samuel’s will. She married Thomas Boggess and they later moved to Prince William County and then to Fauquier. Her son Jeremiah moved to Georgia and he names his daughter Hannah Boggess who married Wiley Heflin.
5. Martha Rust never married nor had children. Thomas Boggess was her guardian, then Charnock Cox and then then by her brother Samuel Rust.
Jeremiah owned a lot of land in Westmoreland and Northumberland Counties. He gave his son Samuel his mill and the millhouse and a slave named Joan. William Rust got White Marsh Neck and a slaves named Peg and Saul. Magdalene got Judah. Jeremiah Jr. got the slave Jenny. Hannah was to get Nan. There were two other slaves named Jenny and Adam. Peg is probably related to the “Pegg” owned by Magdalene mother’s Hannah Damourvell. Her mother was still alive when this will was made and Pegg was given to another Magdalene Jackson, her granddaughter. (not daughter)
Adam and Jenny were “married” for it mentions “their increase”
Joan (Samuel), Peg, Saul (William), Judah (wife), Jenny (Jeremiah), Nan (Hannah), Jenny, Adam (unborn child). Peg and Saul were mentioned together and either were a couple or were brother and sister.
