Battling the Croup

Friday 13th July 2007 - 8:35:02 PM

Our life is a battle a war of will. Right now we are battling the evil croup monster who is currently attacking my 10 month old son. I hate battling germs and goblins on the infant front. That evil croup monster makes my baby bark and struggle at night. I hold him at night until his stridor stops and the barking ceases.

We have no insurance, but since Ron Ron has had the croup before, we know what to expect. Usually the doctor will tell me to run a hot shower. His fever never went above 101 and is now gone. It is easier to deal with the croup in the summer than in the winter. I can at least take him out to breathe fresh air. He loves taking warm showers and cries when I take him out of the bathtub.

He really only seems miserable at 4AM. I give him his Robitussin and Motrin and rock him until he calms down and goes back to sleep. I hope he doesn’t get worse, in fact he finally seems to be getting better.

My son is the only baby I have had that gets sick a lot. He has already had RSV. I had a cold when he was a couple of weeks old. He had lived most of his first year with a snort and a sniffle. I think it has something to do with the fact he has an older brother and sister who pass childhood illnesses to him.

Well, I hope this will be the last night for the battle of the evil croup and my baby can sleep well and be happy.

Ahhh the croup, where I spent hours sitting ton the toilet in the small bathroom, running the shower on hot, filling the room with steam until there was no more hot water in the water tank. I never could understand why I couldn’t loose 20 pounds while enduring that steam ritual with a coughing baby.
    This too shall pass.

Try speaking to your doctor about allergies. Maddy had a non stop cough and sniffles for what seemed like forever. She was put on Singulair and has had a great improvement.

I hope he gets better soon.

You know Esme, I have thought about that since he is always so congested. I am worried that he will have asthma. I am going to test to see if he also has a problem with dairy since he became congested after eating mashed potatoes with milk.
