You Know You Are Getting Old When

You primarily lose weight for your health. In the past I tried to lose weight only to fit in skinny pants or to look good in a swim suit. Now I have more important reasons to lose weight. Unfortunately as you get older it is more difficult to lose weight.

Though looking at recent pictures of my trip to Chicago and the only skyscrapers I noticed were the huge ones on my own chest, I have thought about losing weight a lot lately for my health. I drag throughout my day and live with chronic pain. Exercise is also a great way to beat depression. My joints are stiff and achey and exercise helps with that as well. I also worry about my high cholestoral. All of those things keep me motivated to exercise.

Because of my back pain, I am careful not to push myself too much. Right now I am doing some simple yoga and I walk 15 minutes a day. If I have time I lift some weights at the gym. Next week I plan to advance to 30 minutes a day. Again, it all depends on my back.

I want to enjoy being with my children. I don’t want to spend their childhood living in pain and lethargy. I will not let this chronic back pain rule my life. I will win this war.

Have you tried water aerobics? My oncologist recommended it for my joint stiffness and muscle aches. It’s great. Afterwards, I feel so loose, relaxed, and in less pain. I go to the gym daily. I find that on the days that I don’t go, I am in more pain.
