Remember to Take Your Vitamins
I always hear the advice, “remember to take your prenatal vitamins” because I am nurse all of my babies. I always avoided taking prenatal vitamins though because they make me so sick. I think I am sensitive to the iron.
With my first two children, I did ok. I nursed mainly in the mornings and at night and bottle fed them during the day. Aron is my first to nurse almost exclusively. He hates bottles. I only was recently able to give him sippy cups. He only likes watered down juice and vanilla soy milk. He still expects to nurse almost all day and it is difficult to wean him.
Well, for the past few months my body has been in terrible pain. My hips hurt all of the time. Barely touching me causes me to scream in agony. I can’t even stand for my own child to sit in my lap or even have my husband hold me. I feel like I just finished running a marathon all of the time. My joints pop out of place on an almost daily basis from doing things like picking up my toddler. I am just wiped out most of the time.
I finally got to a gynecologist Monday because I was having sever pelvic pain. They were unable to determine the cause of the pain. I still haven’t heard the result of my tests to see if there is a UTI or something. The other pain I was having didn’t make much since to the doctor. Part of it maybe the IUD but the doctor thinks that the rest of it is a lack of vitamins.
She reminded me that nursing takes a lot of nutrients from the body. I admitted that I haven’t been taking my vitamins. She suggested that I take Calcium pills. Well, I have and already I feel a little better. I still have pain, but I don’t feel so achey. Plus, I have been taking 600 mg of Ibuprofen twice a day. After taking vitamin, I feel like I have a little more energy again.
I hope to find out soon what is causing me so much pain. It maybe just PMS cramps or something.

I hope you feel better soon! I also found it hard to take prenatal vitamins so now I just stick with Iron supplements and they really do make a big difference. Even just 2 hours after giving birth when I had blood drawn the nurses were amazed at how high my hemoglobin count was.
