The Happy Homemaker

This is a letter dated June 30, 1898. It was written by Ida Pope Majors one of my ancestors.

Dear Aunt Minnie,

An awful accident occurred yesterday. Daughter and I went to pick a few berries for supper when I came back, “Oh me! How sad!” One of those quadrupeds called “horses” had stepped on my darling’s foot. I bound it with cotton and then with a rag. He has been suffering severely. I suppose you know my darling is my little pet chicken, Henry. Daughter and I slept on a pallet made for three last night. We are expecting to have a grand concert tonight and will send you a program.

I will close because I am afraid Daughter and I will write the same thing.

P.S. I told Daughter to tell you I was writing to my sweetheart to keep her from knowing I was writing to you. She saw me begin with “Dear A” and of course said I was writing to Alonso Klutts, the very idea! I hope you all had a pleasant trip and you won’t get sick. Ida
