Summer Sports
My mother told me that she keeps up with the family by reading our blogs so I decided I would do a better job and keep up with my blog. I kind of got depressed for a while mainly because I kept getting sick. I still have some bladder problems and have already been through two rounds of antibiotics. I hope to find a good doctor soon. My back also went out. I already hurt my hip when I swept the floor and then I tried to show Victoria how to do a back tumble. I heard a loud “snap” and ended up in bed all day the next day. I didn’t remember why exactly until later while I was watching the Olympic trials.
Victoria and I had fun watching the gymnastic Olympic trials and even Aron tried to do the flips. Victoria loves to watch gymnastics and loved the balance beam and vault, but she was terrified of the bar. Victoria never liked heights much. So I showed her rhythmic gymnastics. She decided she liked that better. There is a gym that does rhythmic gymnastics 5 minutes away. We stopped by the gym and she watched them practice. She is very excited about doing rhythmic gymnastics, except that she will miss doing the balance beam. I got her a book from the library and we have been practicing some moves. It is a lot harder and a lot more complicated than I thought.
I realize now that I would have been a great rhythmic gymnast. I was very flexible as a child and could pretty much do just about every move required. It is sad that I can no longer do simple exercises like back bends and splits. I also had great balance and had a dance background. Rhythmic gymnastics wasn’t too popular when I was little, especially not in Memphis, Tennessee. Now that I know about it, it is too late for my body. With every stretch I hear a pop. My joints are more stiff now. I have always tried to stretch everyday and did yoga for a while. I might try to get back into yoga.
I think I might teach Aziz some yoga. Yoga relaxes your body and Aziz doesn’t know how to relax. It might be the best thing for his health.
He is playing tennis with the kids. Aziz bought tennis rackets for Victoria and Jon Jon. Jon Jon is still a little young, but Victoria is good. They love swimming at the pool too and play soccer and ride bikes with the neighbors.
I really want my kids to stay active the summer and be strong and healthy. I do not believe in strict schedules or signing up for a million different classes. I think it is much more fun to learn as a family. You interact with your children and keep yourself in good health. Only when they reach a point where they truly love a sport and you can no longer help them, would I pay for someone else to teach them. Ever since knocking my back out, I feel good about having someone else teach Victoria tumbling and gymnastics. I still want to work with her at home and do what I can. Maybe we can make up our own rhythmic gymnastics routine to do together!

That sounds like so much fun. I agree. I’m not going to invest in something unless I know it’s something she really wants to do and will help her later on. This fall we’ll be getting Lindsay back into cheerleading and then softball in the Spring. I’m happy about it because #1 I’m a huge softball fan, but also because SHE wants to do this. I would be so scared to teach her besides the academics because I’m not a pro.
Make sure you take lots and lots of pictures. Do you know what type of clothing she has to wear?

Sariah loves to “play” soccer and likes to go to JJ’s soccer games.

Oh yeah, I can picture Lindsay doing softball! I think she would be good at it.
